As summer comes to an end and students ramp up for another academic year, it’s an ideal time to reflect on our summer at Georgia Museum of Art. A look back on the museum’s mentions in the media provides a great review of the past few months. Clips from the last few months tout the museum as a great place to visit. Our loyal staff, volunteers and patrons are a big part of the museum’s success, and our recent exhibitions have made a mark in the art world.
Here’s our list of the best media mentions for the museum in recent months.
Visit Athens and the Georgia Museum of Art
The museum was featured in a variety of pieces highlighting the Classic City’s charm and appeal. Museum staff and longtime Athenians know it’s a great place to visit and live, but it’s nice to get a hat tip and see what visitors appreciate about Athens, the University of Georgia and the Georgia Museum of Art.
- World Atlas: Athens is featured as one of the Seven Friendliest Towns to Visit in the South in 2024. Among their recommendations for things to do in Athens was, of course, a visit to the Georgia Museum of Art.
- DawgNation: Ahead of the UGA football season, DawgNation produced a great guide to Athens and all that it has to offer beyond pigskin tailgating. The Georgia Museum of Art is one of many recommendations included in the piece.
- Discoverer Blog: MSN recently highlighted a post from the Discoverer Blog that names Athens as the Coolest City to Visit in Georgia and highlighted the museum as one of the city’s great experiences.
- The Red & Black: The independent UGA student newspaper promoted the museum this summer as a way to take a creative break from the heat. School may be back in session soon, but this humid Georgia weather is here to stay for many weeks ahead.

Come Visit and Enjoy the Art
It’s been a great summer at the Georgia Museum of Art, with many new changes and improvements that you can read more about in the coming weeks. For now, you’ll have to come visit the museum in person to enjoy all that the museum has to offer. After all, you’re still going to need relief from the humid Georgia weather, and there’s nothing more refreshing than the cool contemplative experience of viewing art in person.
Current exhibitions on view include: “A Perfect Model: Prints after Anthony Van Dyck’s Portraits,” as well as the permanent collection galleries. In August, there are two new exhibition openings to look forward to. Opening August 10, “St. Petersburg as Franz Liszt Saw It” features works on paper that show Russia at the time of Franz Liszt’s visits there in the 1840s. On August 24, Micah Cash’s photography will showcase a beloved Southern experience in “Waffle House Vistas.”
