This Saturday, April 23, the Georgia Museum of Art Student Association(opens in new tab) will host its sixth annual Pop-up Artist Market. This year will be the biggest year for the Pop-up Market yet, according to Elizabeth Swank, president of student association. The market will feature a total of 27 artist booths and two bands, Tabla Rosa and Reed Winckler, performing. Swank expresses excitement about the upcoming event, saying that “Pop-up culture has grown so much during COVID, especially this year. Athens has pop-up markets every weekend, but I feel like this location and event is even more special because of the support from the museum and art community.” The location that Swank talks about is Stan Mullins Studio(opens in new tab), the artistic studio of Stan Mullins, who graciously allows the group every year to use his space for the Pop-up Market. With lots of outdoor areas, the location can perfectly host both artist booths, bands and visitors.
The booths typically feature a wide variety of artistic goods, from pottery to clothing to prints, made by both student and local artists. These artists include Neha Vennapusa, who makes prints, stickers and jewelry; Grouse Creek Pottery(opens in new tab), selling ceramics; Sabrina Dumanowsky(opens in new tab), who is selling spoon rings; and even Swank. The University of Georgia Parents Leadership Council helps support the event every year.
The Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, at Stan Mullins Studio at 650 Pulaski Street in Athens, Georgia. There is street parking, but as it is limited, additional parking can be found at 135 Hoyt St. From the additional parking, a short trail leads to the studio.
