A wide variety of art
The exhibition brought together highlights from the museum’s permanent collection and examined a range of work dating from the 17th to the 21st century. The 28 works in the gallery, each on view for the first time, reflected the museum’s commitment to diversity. Although mostly consisting of works on paper, the exhibition also incorporated other artistic mediums from canvas to 3-D wood sculpture and decorative arts.
Highlights included “John I” (1990), a direct gravure on paper by American contemporary artist Chuck Close; “Ossie” (ca. 1990), a sculpture by folk artist O.L. Samuels; and a recently acquired neoclassical armchair from the late 18th century. Also on view was an oil on board by Pierre Daura, the newest addition to the museum’s Pierre Daura Center.
