music and art together
Music is often called a universal language. It transcends linguistic barriers to connect people of all ages and backgrounds, and is an essential form of artistic, cultural and personal expression. It’s a part of our everyday lives, whether we listen to it in the car, sing it with others at church or experience it in a concert hall or at a rock show. This exhibition features works by 20 artists from around the world, exploring the connections between music, dance and visual art across history, culture and media. These works show how artists have visualized sound and movement. Some capture joyful moments of performance and rhythm. Others suggest the healing and spiritual power of music.
This exhibition was organized by students in Dr. Callan Steinmann’s spring 2025 Topics in Art Museum Education course, ARED 5540/7540: Audience Engagement and Interpretation in the Art Museum.
