Gallery Conversation: The Colors of Timbre
Join visiting composer Leah Reid(opens in new tab) for a conversation about her music and timbre-based compositional process. She will discuss the creation of “Sk(etch),” currently featured in the galleries alongside works from the museum’s collection, as well as other pieces included in the UGA New Music Festival. Reid is a Guggenheim Fellow, award-winning composer and assistant professor of composition and computer technologies at the University of Virginia. Her works — ranging from opera, chamber and vocal music to acousmatic, electroacoustic and interactive sound installations — draw on the everyday sounds that surround us, using timbre, color, and perception to create immersive, transformative sonic experiences.
This event is a part of the UGA New Music Festival(opens in new tab), February 13 – 14, 2026, and is presented in partnership with the Hugh Hodgson School of Music(opens in new tab) at the University of Georgia.
