For this Toddler Tuesday, we are going to look at paintings by Pierre Daura and read “Ish” by Peter H. Reynolds
Pierre Daura and his wife, Louise, lived in a small town in France. Pierre liked to paint the buildings in his town. One of his favorite buildings to paint was this church. He painted it many, many times. Here are three paintings of it.
Let’s take a closer look at these paintings. What do you see? Can you see that each painting is the same building? In each painting, the building is a little different.

Here is a picture of Pierre Daura. He was born in Spain. When he was only 14, he sold his first painting.

Now that we have read a book and looked at art together, it’s your turn to make art.

You will need:
- colored paper
- scissors
How to make buildings with shapes:
- Cut out shapes. Start by cutting out squares, rectangles and triangles. A good size is about 2 to 3 inches. Add more shapes and sizes as needed.
- Play with your shapes. Shuffle them around each other. Group them in interesting ways. Stack or line them up to make buildings.
- Repeat.
