This month we are celebrating the winter holidays. During this time of the year, the weather is cold. Sometimes it even snows. Have you seen snow? It’s fun to play in. You can make snowballs, snow angels and snowpeople.
This painting, “Ranch Cabin, Starry Night, Taos,” is by the artist Oscar Edmund Berninghaus. It shows a small cabin in a snowy landscape. What color is the snow? Is it morning or night? What animals do you see?
Now it’s your turn to make a snowy work of art. Let’s make a marshmallow snowflake.

You will need:
- large and mini marshmallows
- toothpicks
- glue
- black construction paper
- white crayon (optional)
- protective table covering (plastic tablecloth or newspaper)
- wet wipes or damp cloths for quick cleanups

To create your marshmallow snowflake:
- Cover your work surface for easy clean-up.
- Poke up to 8 toothpicks into a large marshmallow.
- Place mini marshmallows on the other end of each toothpick.
- Help your toddler dab glue on the back of the large marshmallow. Glue the snowflake onto the black construction paper.
- You can glue more mini marshmallows onto your paper to make more snow. Use a white crayon to add more snowy decoration.
- Once finished, let the glue dry and admire your work of art.
