Toddler Tuesday: Going Places

11.05.2025

Cars come in various shapes and sizes, from sleek sports cars to sturdy trucks and towering buses. Each type of vehicle serves a unique purpose, whether it’s zooming down highways, hauling goods, or transporting people to exciting destinations.

This painting by Eugenie McEvoy is called “Taxi! Taxi!” What color is the taxi? How many other vehicles can you find in this painting?

Now it’s your turn to make a work of art with vehicles of all shapes and sizes.

You will need:
  • Large sheets of paper or poster board
  • Non-toxic washable paints in various colors
  • Shallow containers for paints
  • Assorted toy vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, bikes, etc.)
  • Protective table covering (plastic tablecloth or newspaper)
  • Wet wipes or damp cloths for quick cleanups
To make your work of art with shapes and colors:
  1. Cover your work surface with paper for easy clean-up.
  2. Place a small amount of washable paint in each shallow container.
  3. Let your toddlers choose a vehicle and dip its wheels into a paint color of their choice.
  4. Help them roll the painted wheels across the paper, creating tracks that resemble the paths vehicles take on journeys.
  5. Experiment with different colors and vehicles to make a vibrant and imaginative landscape of tracks.
  6. When the work is finished, let the paint dry and admire the art.
