Toddler Tuesday: Gallery ABCs

11.05.2025

Do you know your ABCs? Sing the letters of the alphabet with your little one.

We can practice our ABCs as we look at works of art. You can find all sorts of things that start with different letters in a museum.

This painting is called “Esther Before Ahasuerus.” It shows Queen Esther asking the king to save her people. As you look closely, play I-Spy and find things that start with different letters of the alphabet.

Now let’s make alphabet art!

A painting from the Renaissance titled "Esther Before Ahasuerus" that features Esther fainting in front of her husband, Ahasuerus, while several women catch her.

For this activity, you will need

A printed outline of a capital letter A with the words "A is for ART." Someone has decorated the A with pompoms, markers, stickers and oil pastels.

To make your alphabet art

  1. Cover your work surface for easy clean-up.
  2. Draw an outline of a letter for your little one.
  3. Let your toddler decorate the letter with a variety of art supplies.
  4. Add different colors, textures and designs to encourage creativity.
