Our five senses help us learn about the world around us. You can use your senses to see, hear, touch, smell and taste.
Let’s explore a work of art using our five senses. This artwork is called “Soundsuit.” The artist has made many of these soundsuits. They can be worn like a costume, and sometimes people dance while wearing them. What objects do you see? Are they soft or hard? If you danced in the soundsuit, would it make a loud sound or a quiet sound? Would you be able to smell or taste anything if you wore this suit?
Now let’s use our five senses to create art with pudding paint!

For this activity, you will need:
- instant vanilla pudding
- milk
- cold water
- large spoon
- bowls
- food dye
- paper
- craft stick(s) or cotton swab(s)
- protective table covering (plastic tablecloth or newspaper)
- wet wipes or damp cloths for quick cleanups

To make your pudding paint:
- Follow the box instructions to mix the instant pudding with milk and water.
- Divide the pudding into smaller bowls to make different colors. Add a few drops of food dye to the pudding. Mix the color(s) evenly using a spoon.
- Allow the pudding to set in the refrigerator for 10 to 20 minutes.
- Prepare to get messy! Your toddler can wear older clothes or strip down before they paint. Cover a large flat surface with a plastic tablecloth or newspaper for easier cleanup.
- This art project is meant to be fun and process-oriented for your toddler. They can use a variety of materials, such as cotton swabs, kitchen utensils or their fingers, to paint on a piece of paper or directly onto the covered surface. Encourage them to use all five senses as they explore their creativity with the pudding paint.
