Toddler Tuesday: Faces

11.05.2025

This week for Toddler Tuesday we’re looking at the exhibition “Kota Ezawa: The Crime of Art.” In this exhibition the artist Kota Ezawa takes a closer look at famous paintings stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Kota Ezawa (Japanese-German, b. 1969), “A Lady and Gentleman in Black,” 2015. Duratrans transparency and LED light box, 52 1/2 × 43 1/2 inches. Courtesy of the artist, Collection of Nion McEvoy and Christopher Grimes Gallery, Santa Monica.

He re-creates the 13 stolen works of art using his signature style. His style is flat and graphic. Ezawa makes places and faces using shapes and colors.

Now it is your turn to make a face!

For this activity you will need:
  • paper
  • a printer
  • scissors
  • a glue stick
  • markers

Directions:
  1. Find “printable face parts” by searching for that phrase online. Print a design you like.
  2. Draw a face shape. Or print out a face outline available online.
  3. Help your toddler cut out face parts with scissors.
  4. Encourage your little artist to put glue on the back of the cut-outs and glue the face parts inside the face shape. Use markers to add details.
