The artist Kevin Cole folds, bends and layers metal and other materials to create his three-dimensional constructions. How can you use these techniques to turn flat, two-dimensional paper into a sculpture inspired by his art?
For this activity you will need:
- scissors
- paper
- glue or tape
If your paper doesn’t have designs or color on it, you can add your own with pencils, markers or crayons.
To make your sculpture:
- Choose a piece of paper for your sculpture base
- Cut other pieces of paper into strips
- Twist, curl and bend your paper strips into shapes
- Glue the ends of the strips to your base
- Try layering your paper designs so you fill your entire base. What kind of shapes can you make? How high can your sculpture reach?
