The museum hosts events in a variety of spaces that suit different needs. The M. Smith Griffith Grand Hall makes for a stunning reception location, with its maple paneling with modern touches of brushed steel, illuminated milk glass and gray terrazzo floors. The Jane and Harry Willson Sculpture Garden provides a beautiful outdoor space with sculpture exhibitions and modern touches of cement tiles lined with green grass, bamboo and a gentle waterfall fountain. The M. Smith Griffith Auditorium is perfect for performance or multimedia events, while the education center provides an ideal space for a luncheon or informal meeting.
With a robust amenities package including seating, tabling and a venue manager, the museum aims to accommodate all needs. Rylee Meyer, the museum’s senior events coordinator, says the events team also handles setting up and breaking down events. “[We] try to take as much of the day-of stress off the client as possible,” says Meyer.
The skilled and friendly team uses creative approaches to help you reflect the specific needs of your event. The team creates a layout for each function, and they can help customize the amenities and pricing to accommodate shorter or smaller events. Meyer says, “We don’t force each event to fit into a specific mold. Whether we’re talking about a budget or a floor plan, we are creative enough to find a solution or alternative for our clients. We don’t like to tell clients ‘no’ simply because something sounds difficult. If we have to tell someone ‘no,’ it’ll only be after we’ve looked at it from as many different ways as we can.”
The museum offers discounts for UGA student groups and UGA departments holding events at the museum. Proceeds from museum events help the Georgia Museum of Art keep admission free to all.
