Editor’s note: As we settle into 2022, I asked Georgia Museum of Art staff members to share their New Year’s goals. The responses varied greatly, from reading every exhibition label in the museum to flossing more to savoring time with family. January 1 is just another day, but it also represents an opportunity for reflection, growth and new beginnings. –– Isabel Walston, assistant editor

I don’t really do resolutions, but I do have a lot of goals I hope to work on this year. I am on the Athens Pride(opens in new tab) board and this is the last year I can serve, so I hope to contribute as much as possible this year and teach others what I have learned over the last five years. I also hope to get involved in working with another non-profit this year, one geared toward special needs folks. Another goal for my year is to get back into ceramics. I have been doing ceramics on and off since high school. I have had about a three-to-four-year hiatus and am slowly working on getting back at it. At home, we pretty much have a mini farm in the backyard. This year, I plan to finish painting our chicken coop, construct a new bunny vista and add two more raised beds to our garden area. I also hope to grow our little bunny network this year and raise many sweet bunny babies to go to loving homes. –– Amber Barnhardt, associate registrar

I resolved to floss my teeth on a more regular schedule, which is a really boring and (I hope) achievable resolution, but, more important, I resolved to see more art! I’m especially excited about the Alma Thomas exhibition(opens in new tab) that opens at the Columbus Museum in July, and I hope to work in a trip there and to revisit Pasaquan(opens in new tab) while I’m at it. The High Museum also has a Bob Thompson exhibition(opens in new tab) opening in June, organized by the Colby College Museum of Art, and I’d like to go see that because I love his work. I keep a list of museums and cultural sites visited every year, and I made it to 22 in 2021, so maybe I can beat that record this year. –– Hillary Brown, director of communications

Not binge watch TV series! Try to watch them as they were intended: one episode a week.
–– Nelda Damiano, Pierre Daura Curator of European Art

To eat better. To eat less. To exercise more. To give up sugar. –– William Underwood Eiland, director

My New Year’s goal is to do one new thing each month that I’ve always wanted to do or have been too scared to do before. I just started planning my first thru-hiking trip on a portion of the Appalachian Trail for this summer and I can’t wait! –– Kathryn Hill, curatorial assistant in contemporary art

In 2022 I want to make a point to read every label (wall text) in all of our exhibitions(opens in new tab).
–– Michael Lachowski, public relations

Spend as much time as possible with my twins because they will go away to college in the fall. Having them all to myself as a single mom, this will be different for me, however I’m so excited for them. Enjoying soccer games with my daughter, FFA with my son, church and all that I can manage to be involved in their lives. –– Wanda Moore, security supervisor

More: Love and acceptance toward self and others, understanding different opinions on COVID, forest bathing(opens in new tab), swimming and painting. Less: Judgment and stress eating. –– Sarina Rousso, assistant registrar

My new year’s resolution is to listen to more/new-to-me music! I get stuck in the rut of a smaller rotation of albums or bands and find a lot of joy in discovering new music to love. –– Noelle Shuck, graphic designer
