Take a look at these two ceramic sculptures. What do you think about them?
They are made from a special kind of mud called clay.
Artists shape the clay when it is wet.
After they shape the clay, they bake it in a special oven. It gets very hot.

When the clay comes out of the oven it is hard. It is now ceramic (seh-RAM-ick).
Do you think it would be fun to get muddy and play with clay?
Watch the video below for storytime about a little baby chick that plays in the mud.
Now it is your turn to get stuck in the mud!

Edible Mud Sensory Tub
You will need:
- Chocolate pudding (buy premade or make your own depending on dietary needs)
- Flat tray or tub
- Toys (dump trucks, diggers, cars, plastic animals, etc.)
- Toddler-safe objects (clean rocks, green herbs, small shovels, etc.)
How to make an edible mud sensory tub:
- Spread a layer of pudding across the bottom of a tray or tub. Add water as needed to achieve the right consistency.
- Set toddler-safe toys and objects in the “mud.”
- Play in the sensory tub in a bathtub for easy clean-up.
