Spring Art Appreciation

If the warm weather and blooming flowers are any indication, Spring has officially arrived in Athens. The season encourages us to stop and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings, art included. To that end, the Georgia Museum of Art’s spring calendar is full of events meant to do just that. Take a look at what we have in store for the rest of the season.

Slow Art Day

Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13

Slow Art Day, held at venues across the world, is meant to promote the practice of slow looking in art museums. While the official date of celebration this year is April 13, the museum will celebrate this year in a special Morning Mindfulness program on Friday, April 12. Can’t make it to the program on Friday? You can celebrate on Saturday or any other time you’d like.

Slow Art Day Basics

    1. Find a local museum or gallery you’d like to visit.
    2. Attend and look at 5 pieces of art slowly.
    3. Discuss your experience. Ask friends or family to join for the slow art experience or find other museum visitors for a discussion.
