Jennifer Steinkamp masterfully uses digital animation to examine the boundaries between reality and illusion, nature and technology and the natural and artificial. Led by curator of American art Jeffrey Richmond-Moll, this Zoom panel discussion will feature Dr. Kim Coder, professor of tree biology and health care and University Hill Fellow for Distinguished Public Service & Outreach, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia; Christopher Cogan, instructor, Art X: Expanded Forms, Lamar Dodd School of Art, Lamar Dodd School of Art, UGA; and Dr. Alan Stewart, weather and climate psychologist and professor in the department of counseling and human development, Mary Frances Early College of Education, UGA. Together the panelists will discuss Steinkamp’s “Mike Kelley” — an animated windblown tree that cycles through the seasons — in relation to the fields of contemporary art, digital media, forest ecology and botany.
