A documentary in which BBC television presenter Dan Cruickshank and British photojournalist Don McCullin travel to Palmyra to learn about damage inflicted upon the ancient Syrian city. In May 2015, the Islamic State (IS) seized the city and began destroying artifacts and monuments in a form of cultural terrorism that was largely fed by all the media coverage it received. In March of 2017, IS was driven out of Palmyra for a second time, and Cruickshank and McCullin decided to make the journey to see the damage and determine whether things can be restored. 2018, NR, 59 min. With an introduction and gallery tour of the exhibition “Before the War: Photographs of Syria by Peter Aaron” led by Ashlyn Parker Davis, art history graduate student and Daura Center intern.
