Samurai Film Series: “Yojimbo”

7 – 9 pm

The incomparable Toshiro Mifune stars in Akira Kurosawa’s visually stunning and darkly comic “Yojimbo.” To rid a terror-stricken village of corruption, wily masterless samurai Sanjuro turns a range war between two evil clans to his own advantage. Remade twice, once as Sergio Leone’s “A Fistful of Dollars” and once as Walter Hill’s “Last Man Standing,” this exhilarating genre-twister remains one of the most influential and entertaining films of all time. Japanese with English subtitles. 1961, 110 min. Introduction by Masaki Mori, associate professor and assistant director of the Japanese Program, UGA.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Samurai: The Way of the Warrior.” This film series is generously sponsored by UGA Parents and Families Association.
