Museum Mix kicks off sixth year
Tuesday, April 11, 2017
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host its first Museum Mix of the year on April 20 from 8 to 11 p.m. All of the galleries will be open for the late-night art party, held three times a year. Hugh Hodgson School of Music graduate student Kevin Green will play a DJ set. Free refreshments and snacks will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
Green has worked in music as an instrumentalist and music educator. Born in California, he has studied hip hop DJs and reggae selectors since the early 1990s. His work as a DJ began when he moved to Brooklyn in 2009, and he describes his style as both old school and new school. He uses both vinyl on turntables and a laptop to create his own beats and remixes. His selections for Museum Mix will focus on salsa, Latin-Funk, Cuban and Brazilian music, but may include hip hop and house blends of these styles as well.
“Please join me for a night of style, flava, and good vibes,” Green implores.
Exhibitions on view will include “Advanced and Irascible: Abstract Expressionism from the Collection of Jeanne and Carroll Berry,” “Expanding Tradition: Selections from the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Collection,” “Michael Ellison: Urban Impressions” and the annual Master of Fine Arts degree candidates exhibition.
Museum Mix is sponsored by Amici, Taziki’s and Big City Bread.
