Georgia Museum of Art to present quarterly reception May 12

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Athens, GA – The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host 90 Carlton: Spring on May 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The quarterly reception will celebrate the spring exhibitions. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments, as well as gallery activities, door prizes and “Ask the Experts” from 7 to 8 p.m. where they can ask questions of curators and gallery experts. The event is free for members and $5 for nonmembers. Tickets can be bought at the door or in advance at

The exhibitions highlighted are:

• “Michael Ellison: Urban Impressions” (on view through May 21). The exhibition is part of the museum’s commitment to presenting single-artist shows by under-recognized African American artists and features block prints and collage works on paper by the Atlanta-based printmaker, who died in 2001.

• “Master of Fine Arts Degree Candidates Exhibition” (on view through May 14). The exhibition is the annual exit art show for the graduating master of fine arts students at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. This year’s candidates include Thomas Bosse, Reid Brechner, Julia Megan Burchett, Ellie Dent, Jamie Diaz, Arron Foster, Meirav Goldhour, Zachary Harris, Ariel Lockshaw, Shuk Han Lui, Jonathan Nowell, Amanda Scheutzow, Stephanie Sutton and Dan Vu.

• “The Past Is Never Dead: Kristin Casaletto” (on view May 6–July 30), which shows prints and one three-dimensional object by the contemporary artist, who lives and works in Augusta, Georgia. Casaletto’s work investigates issues of history and its interpretation as well as questions related to identity and race.

Host Committee: Thomas Bosse, Jamie K. Diaz, Arron Foster and Ariel Lockshaw.

Event Partners: The Athens Printing Company, Barron’s Rental Center and Epting Events.
