Saturday, November 8, 2008

ATHENS, GA – The Friends of the Georgia Museum of Art in Athens, GA, hosted the 11th biennial Elegant Salute xi: A Hardhat Salute on Saturday, November 8, and raised nearly $100,000 with the help of ticket sales and event sponsors. Money raised from the gala will fund exhibitions and future educational programming at the museum.

More than 225 guests attended the event, co-chaired by Ann Scoggins and Rinne Allen.

During the evening, Shannon Candler, Chairman of the museum’s Board of Advisors, announced the appointment of Vice Chairman Rowland A. Radford, Jr., as a Life Member of the Board.

The position of Life Member is the highest honor bestowed on Board members. Radford received this recognition for his loyal service to the Georgia Museum of Art.

Elegant Salute xi was the last major fundraising event to take place in the museum before the building temporarily closes in early 2009. The museum will be under construction until 2011 for the addition of a new wing, which will increase gallery space and allow for the continuous display of its permanent collection.
